Audio Flash (1:18): Maine passed a medical marijuana law in 1999 with 61 percent of the vote.  A 2009 ballot initiative amended the law to allow dispensaries and add additional qualifying conditions, and 8 dispensaries are currently in operation.  Also in 2009, the state legislature decriminalized possession of small amounts of cannabis, and last year, 67% of Portland voters decided to make it legal for adults to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana.
