Earlier today, The Global Commission on Drug Policy and a coalition of political figures called for the legalization and regulation of “as many of the drugs that are currently illegal as possible, with the understanding that some drugs may remain too dangerous to decriminalize.” The delegation included former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, Richard Branson, George P. Shultz, the former presidents of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland, among others. For reaction to this international call to reform drug laws, CRN’s Brian Bahouth spoke with Jim Gierach, a former prosecutor in Chicago and an executive board member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition or LEAP.
